(237 words) My opinion about the story "Cut" is ambiguous. On the one hand, the main character Gleb Kapustin is an intelligent, well-read man who proves that ordinary villagers can be no more stupid than dignitaries. On the other hand, in my opinion, Gleb is more a negative character than a positive one. He deliberately “lowers” other people, and apparently he likes it. My impression of this character is negative. I believe that you can’t do what he does. Gleb does not create equal conditions for an intellectual dispute, does not take into account the direction of knowledge and competencies of the interlocutor, but confuses him and twists in such a way that he necessarily wins a verbal battle.
I liked only how much Gleb knows. But it would be much better if he directed all this knowledge, all his perseverance on the right track, not to “lower” other people, but to reach heights by himself. After all, envy of those townspeople who have achieved much in life are eating him. Probably, he himself wanted to, but could not achieve success, and therefore he likes to "lower the others" to the ground.
The main idea of the story, in my opinion, is that there will always be people like Gleb. Those who are dissatisfied with the successes of others. Such people themselves have not achieved anything, are content with the fate of the average man, and at the same time build the most intelligent of themselves. They can be pitied because they are simply envious. In my opinion, it is not for nothing that the main character causes rejection. The story teaches that one cannot be like Gleb. Instead of arguing and pulling other people down, we must try to realize ourselves in life.
