Times are changing, but eternal values remain unchanged. This, first of all, concerns virtues, which a person has always considered treasures of the soul. One of the main moral values is fidelity - the ability and desire not to change your words, beliefs and feelings. Why is this quality so highly regarded among people?
In the epic novel “War and Peace”, L. N. Tolstoy answers this question in his own way. His hero, Pierre Bezukhov, receives a large inheritance and becomes a prominent person in the world. Then he falls in love with the “marble shoulders” of Helen Kuragina, a young coquette from high society. She quickly captures his attention and becomes his wife. However, as soon as the girl made a profitable party and received the desired wealth, she immediately renewed her former ties with men and became even more relaxed and frank than before. Her frivolity suffered a husband who sincerely loved her. Marriage has become a nightmare for him. Realizing that his wife was not going to change, and openly cheating on him, Pierre left her. As a result of the tragic events, Helen died, Bezukhov became a widower. And then his wounded heart found true love - the modest and ugly Natasha Rostov, who, nevertheless, differed from Helen in more significant virtues. This girl became a devoted wife, of whom Pierre was confident. It was with her that he found the long-awaited happiness.
Another example was described by F. M. Dostoevsky in the novel Crime and Punishment. Sophia Marmeladova and Rodion Raskolnikov fell in love, they were brought together by a common grief. It was Sonya’s feelings that sent the hero on the righteous path of atonement for sin. He repented and received penal servitude in harsh conditions. And then his chosen one showed devotion worthy of praise. She went after him to Siberia, abandoning city life, where living is much easier. The brave girl was not afraid of either hardships or dangers, just to be with her loved one. It was this phenomenal fidelity that saved Rodion from himself. Looking at Sonya's dedication, he found harmony in himself and abandoned the harmful theories.
Thus, fidelity is the foundation of human relationships. Without it, people cannot trust each other; without it, there can be no family and children. Only the devotion of a loving heart can revive a person’s faith in the world and people, heal his spiritual wounds and support him in difficult times.
