(326 words) “Everyone got it, and I have the most.”, Commented Nikolai I as the “Inspector”. Gogol made fun of everyone he wanted, wrote a comedy in which there was not a single positive character. The whole point of the play is to make fun of officials in turn.
In the center, of course, is the main person, he himself thinks so. Anton Antonovich Skvoznik-Dmukhanovsky has been the mayor for 30 years. He is used to the fact that there is always the opportunity to bribe or put pressure, as well as to take public money to himself. For example, funds for the construction of the church have disappeared, the police are drunk and allow themselves too much, but this does not bother Anton Antonovich, there is no benefit.
Bobchinsky and Dobchinsky - to describe these “frames” Gogol does not even single out separate paragraphs, and in their surnames only one letter is different. That is their whole point. They are empty. They are flattered to be in the center of events and to feel important. Their task is to collect and spread gossip, no more, no less.
The image of a judge is especially ridiculous. “I’ve been sitting on the judicial chair for fifteen years now, and when I look into the memorandum - ah! I’ll just wave my hand. Solomon himself will not allow what is true and what is wrong, ”Lyapkin-Tyapkin cannot figure out the memo, is it worth talking about his competence as a judge? Cases were akin to his last name. A middle-aged man took bribes with borzoi dogs, because this is “another matter”.
Do not forget about Khlestakov, a petty official from St. Petersburg. A man "without a king in his head." It was he who was accepted as the auditor expected by all. He did not even understand what was happening, but he took full advantage of it. He borrowed money from everyone he could, and disappeared. He likes to live in the role of who he can never become.
There are other important characters in the play. What is the Postman alone, who does not care about the secret of correspondence. All these heroes make disgusting images of officials, of whom there was darkness in different counties. Gogol heartily laughed at them, but this laugh, as they say, through tears. And if you think about it, then in our time the situation in the regions is not much different from what Nikolay Vasilyevich described in his comedy.
