In the novel by M. Yu. Lermontov, “The Hero of Our Time”, there are many heroes whose fates somehow resonate with the life of the main character, Grigory Pechorin.
Grigory Pechorin
The main character of the work is a collective image of a modern person, according to Lermontov. Pechorin is an extremely charismatic and charming person; otherwise, the sympathy arising towards him cannot be explained. Gregory is an egoist by nature, often his actions ruin the lives of other people or do irreparable harm.
A young officer of noble origin, attractive appearance and large physique, his life was bored for a long time, and he lost its meaning. This explains the majority of his cynical acts, Pechorin is deeply unhappy, and he is trying to fill the void in his soul with various "entertainments." The character of the protagonist is paradoxical, as he is: having a light, blond hair, has a black beard and mustache.
Despite the light color of his hair, his mustache and eyebrows were black - a sign of a breed in a man, like a black mane and black tail in a white horse ...
Maxim Maksimych
Maxim Maksimych is an officer of a respectable age and a good soul. Together with Pechorin, he served in the Caucasus, considered the young man his good friend. The headquarters captain is a very vulnerable person, despite the fact that the first place in his life was occupied by service, only once did he neglect it and wanted to meet Pechorin. Faced with the indifference of Pechorin, Maxim Maksimych was upset to the core: “... poor old man, for the first time, perhaps, dropped out of the service for his own need, speaking in paper language, and how he was awarded! ..”
Also, this character has such a character trait as emotionality. Maxim Maksimych is not at all able to restrain his emotions and feelings, if he is sad - there are tears in his eyes, if he laughs, then it is rolling out from the heart. However, the officer was not used to being shy about his feelings; he was a man not proud and not bashful.
Grushnitsky
A young cadet friend of Pechorin from service in the Caucasus, a poor nobleman from the outback. Well-built, pretty and well-mannered, complies with all the rules of etiquette. Proud, proud Grushnitsky dies in a duel with Pechorin because of his rash words spoken in the heat of the moment. He understands that this decision will cost him his life, however, he considers it below his dignity to admit.
Grushnitsky loves beautiful words and expressions, and his speech is saturated with them. His main goal is to impress others: "... Grushnitsky managed to take a dramatic position with a crutch and answered me loudly ...". For his own benefit, capable of meanness, cowardly: in a duel with Pechorin agrees to take out the bullets.
Dr. Werner
The man is charming, has people for himself and women like him despite the fact that he is not very attractive in appearance:
His appearance was one of those that at first sight unpleasantly amazes, but which they like afterwards when the eye learns to read in the wrong way the imprint of a tested and high soul. There were examples that women fell in love with such people to the point of madness and would not exchange their ugliness for beauty ...
Dr. Werner has a similar character and outlook on life to Pechorin: "we are rather indifferent to everything except ourselves." However, Werner only verbally rejects people and considers life dull and boring. In reality, this is a decent person and capable of compassion. He likes to be sharp, educated and observant. Agrees to become a second Pechorin in a duel, discloses the conspiracy of Grushnitsky, however, after his murder sends Grigory a sharp letter: “You can sleep peacefully, if you can of course ...”
Bela
A young sixteen year old girl, the daughter of a wealthy prince. The girl has pitch-black eyes with thick eyelashes and hair: "Black eyes, like that of a mountain chamois, looked into your soul ...". The girl is beautiful, thin, tall, ruddy.
Bela spent her whole life in the mountains in the Caucasus, she has no education, because she grew up on folk traditions and customs. A girl with a strong character and proud disposition: "I am not his slave - I am a princely daughter! ..". Partly because of his stubbornness, Bela dies, disobeying Pechorin. She left the fortress to the river, where she was abducted, and later killed by Kazbic. At first, the girl was wild, Pechorin was unpleasant to her, and she showed it with her whole appearance. Bel did not know the language of Russian, she began to learn it, living with Pechorin. Young Cherkesshenka is a jack of all trades, has a cheerful disposition, knows how to dance and sing well: “How she dances! How to sing! The Turkish padishah didn’t have such a wife ... ”
Princess Mayorand
Princess Ligovskaya comes to Pyatigorsk to rest with her mother, where she meets Pechorin. Young, slender, with delicate arms and cheeks, her waist is flexible, and her hair is thick and shiny. The girl’s face is lively and mobile, and her eyes are “velvet”:
She has such velvet eyes - it is velvet eyes ... the lower and upper eyelashes are so long that the rays of the sun are not reflected in her pupils. I love these eyes without shine: they are so soft, they seem to stroke you ... However, it seems that there is only good in her face ...
Mary is an enviable bride with a rich dowry, well-educated and popular with the opposite sex. The girl lives in her own fictional world, she does not know how to distinguish real feelings from duty coquetry, therefore she takes all words and action for truth. Ligovskaya is smart, but inexperienced, so she succumbs to Pechorin’s provocation and falls in love with him, after which she receives a refusal and a life lesson:
Some compliment to the princess said: she, apparently, is not very legible, because since then she has answered his bow with the cutest smile ...
Vera
Beloved Pechorin, with whom he was in a romantic relationship. Now Vera is married, she came to Pyatigorsk with her husband and met Gregory there. The woman sincerely loves Pechorin, she is ready for him to forgive everything. A pretty blonde of medium height with a catchy feature is a black mole on her right cheek. Vera seems sick, her complexion is unhealthy, consumptive:
Faith is sick, very sick, although she does not admit it; I’m afraid that she doesn’t have consumption or the disease called fievre lente - the disease is not Russian at all, and she has no name in our language ...
For Pechorin, Vera is special, it seems that only with her is he real and only next to her we see that he is capable of sincere feelings: "She is the only woman in the world who could not be deceived." She accepts Gregory as he is. A woman constantly sacrifices herself for him, meets with him in secret from her husband, at the end she reveals a fraud, and her husband takes her away.
