Anton Pavlovich Chekhov wrote many instructive and thoughtful stories. His thought is laconic, therefore the prose works of this author are small in volume, but at the same time they say everything that needs to be said, without any unnecessary details. This article is a very short summary of one of the writer's masterpieces, the story “Student,” for the reader's diary. In order to write a review, we also recommend reading book analysis from Literaguru.
(231 words) Spring day was clear and quiet, but then it got dark and colder. The student of the Theological Academy Ivan Velikopolsky walked and trembled from the wind. He thought that cold, hunger and poverty were at all times, there is and will be afterwards - nothing will change.
A bonfire burned in the village darkness. He went up to warm up and saw two widows - the old woman Vasilisa and her daughter Lukeryu. He began to tell that many years ago, in the same way, the apostle Peter stood by the fire. And the night was just as fierce when Peter and Jesus served Vespers in the garden. Peter spoke that he would follow Jesus anywhere. Jesus replied that he would soon give up his words. That same night, the apostle fell asleep, and Judas kissed Christ and surrendered him to the authorities. And then Peter went exhausted with the crowd, and saw how his beloved teacher was being tortured. When Jesus was interrogated, Peter stood with the others and warmed himself by the fire. People began to recognize in him one of the disciples of Christ, but the apostle three times denied. Suddenly, Peter remembered the words spoken to Jesus at the supper, left the courtyard and burst into tears.
The student finished the story. Vasilisa began to cry, and Lukerya blushed. Soon, Ivan left the widows. Again it became dark and chilly. And the student suddenly thought that if these women were touched by the living story that he told them, it means that the apostle Peter is close to them, and beauty and truth guide the lives of people to this day, and that the past is closely connected with the present. The student felt great happiness from this thought.
